Home to the Terracotta Army and ancient city walls
Xi'an, one of the Four Great Ancient Capitals of China, served as the seat of power for 13 dynasties over more than 1,100 years. It was the eastern terminus of the legendary Silk Road, making it one of the most cosmopolitan cities in the ancient world. Today, it remains a living museum of Chinese civilisation.
The city's crowning treasure is the Terracotta Army — over 8,000 life-sized warriors buried with Emperor Qin Shi Huang more than 2,200 years ago. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of the greatest archaeological discoveries of the 20th century, and seeing the warriors in person is a truly awe-inspiring experience.
Xi'an's Muslim Quarter is one of the most vibrant food streets in all of China, where Hui Muslim culture blends with Han Chinese traditions. Here you'll find hand-pulled noodles, lamb skewers, and roujiamo — often called 'Chinese hamburgers'. The ancient City Wall, one of the best-preserved in China, offers cycling and walking with panoramic views of the old city.
