Hangzhou, the capital of Zhejiang Province, has enchanted poets, emperors, and travellers for over a thousand years. Its centrepiece, West Lake (Xihu), is a UNESCO World Heritage landscape of willow-lined causeways, pagodas, and mist-shrouded hills. Beyond the lake, Hangzhou is China's silk capital and home to the world's finest Longjing (Dragon Well) green tea, grown on terraced hillsides just minutes from the city. Most of our Hangzhou tours are combined with Shanghai or Suzhou as part of a wider Jiangnan (waterways region) itinerary.
Stroll the UNESCO-listed West Lake causeways at dawn or dusk
Visit a traditional Longjing (Dragon Well) tea plantation and taste the harvest
Explore the China National Silk Museum — the world's largest silk collection
Walk the Hefang Street historic district with Qing Dynasty architecture
Cruise West Lake by private boat to Six Harmonies Pagoda
Day trip to Suzhou's classical gardens or Wuzhen water town
Spring (March–May) is peak season — West Lake blooms with lotus flowers and the new Longjing tea harvest begins. Autumn (September–October) offers clear skies and golden hillsides. Summer is hot and humid; winter is cool and atmospheric around the lake.
